Getting Started

Learning to fly has never been easier.

If flying is your dream, we are here to make your dream a reality! Learning to fly is easier than you think. Thousands of Canadians fly for fun. Some will choose to make a career of being a pilot. Whatever your reason, PFC is here to introduce you to the thrill of taking off!

First, call 604-946-0011 and let us set up an introductory flying lesson. This lesson lasts about 35 minutes, costs $65+tax and really gives you a good idea on what you can expect. Who knows, you may even get to use our simulator too.

Tell us when you want to fly, how many times a week, and we will set you up. Then you simply access our online booking system and choose the time, aircraft and instructor of your choice, or one who is available when you want to fly. Some people like to fly every day, some once a week or every two weeks. We will also assign you a “secondary instructor” so that you always have access to two instructors.

You do have a choice between doing a full Private Pilot Licence or the Recreational Pilot Permit. Those who opt to do the RPP are normally too young to hold the Private Pilot Licence and do plan to upgrade as soon as they are old enough!

You will also want to sign up to attend Private Pilot Ground School. Most students will purchase a ground school kit for the Private Pilot Licence when they commence ground school which will give you all the basic supplies you’ll need or at least purchase the basic ground school texts to get started. There are three options at PFC: Monday and Wednesday evenings at the Club, Saturday mornings at the Club or an online option or all three. Once you pay for PFC’s Ground School, you may attend classes as many times as you wish for as long as you are a Club member. This is very helpful when studying for weaker subjects. Many veteran pilots come back years later to take refresher courses at no additional charge.

The next step is to undergo a Category 3 Aviation Medical Exam. This is required prior to soloing, but you can certainly start your flying lessons before completing the medical.

A list of certified civil aviation medical examiners available online.

Lots of flying, a medical, and ground school… that’s it! Along the way, you’ll be challenged and excited. We will lead you through the steps along the way to your Private Pilot Licence. And then you begin a whole new journey, whether it’s going on to earn a Commercial Pilot Licence or just making the most of your newfound freedom as a private pilot.

Experience an introductory flying lesson and get a start on being a pilot today!
