The number of hours to complete the course will depend on the individual's other commitments, number of hours flown per week, weather, number of repetitive exercises required, time to meet proficiency requirement for flight test, etc. Most students require more than the minimum number of dual hours to prepare for their flight test.
The Pacific Flying Club offers the Recreational Pilot Permit based on a minimum of 25 hours of flight training. Of this time 15 hours must be dual instruction and 5 hours must be solo. The requirements stipulate that the student will complete 2 hours dual cross country flying. Additionally the Club provides a ground school programme as preparation for the written examination administered by Transport Canada. The Private ground school is held every Monday and Wednesday evening from 19:00 to 21:30 on a continuous rotating basis, Saturday mornings or online. It is possible to start the ground school programme at any time and attend classes as many times as desired at no additional cost. This groundschool is recommended for the Recreational Pilot Permit and a requirement of the Private Pilot Licence; those people who choose to upgrade to the Private Pilot Licence will not have to repeat groundschool unless desired.
