PTIRU Long Contract: Night Rating Program Outline

Brief Program DescriptionFlight training required to meet requirements to be issued a Night Rating by Transport Canada.
Career OccupationCommercial Pilot (this is a component part of most Commercial Pilot students training programs).
Admission Requirements*
  • Age17
  • Category 1 or 3 Medical,
  • English language proficiency requirements*:
    • Have a Transport Canada approved assessment:
      • The CFI can sign off that the student is at an “expert” level of English language proficiency, or
      • A Transport-Canada approved assessor can sign off that the student’s English language proficiency is at, minimally, an “operational” level.
  • Private Pilot Licence
Learning ObjectivesAt the completion of this program, the student will demonstrate the competencies outlined in Transport Canada’s Flight Training Manual. Students should refer to Flight Training Program in Member Handbook.
Method(s) of EvaluationInflight evaluation to confirm competence.
Completion RequirementsA minimum of 10 hours dual flight tine, 5 hours solo flight time.
Program DurationFull time involves 15 hours per week of training and takes approximately 2 weeks depending on weather restrictions. Part time varies depending on student’s availability for flying and can take from 1 month to 2 months. Students can expect to do a minimum of 1 hour of pre and post flight preparation for each hour of flight training conducted.
Homework HoursApproximately 1 hour of pre and post flight preparation for each hour of flight training conducted.

Program OrganizationThe program is composed of 5 hours ground briefing, 10 hours of dual flight instruction and 5 hours of solo flying. All flying is conducted one-on-one. Ground briefing is held face to face according to the schedule provided and/or available online.
