Training – Private Pilot Licence Course

(Effective February 2, 2024)

Pacific Flying Club offers Private Pilot flight training based on minimum of 45 hours of flight training. The requirements stipulate that the student will complete 5 hours of dual instrument training, 3 hours dual cross country flying and 5 hours of solo cross country flying. 3 hours may be completed in an approved flight training simulator (Minimum 2 hrs Instrument in A/C). Additionally, the Club provides a ground school program as preparation for the written examination administered by Transport Canada.

The Private Pilot Ground School is held every Monday and Wednesday evening from 19:00 to 21:30 on a continuous rotating basis or Saturday mornings. It is possible to start the ground school programme at any time and attend classes as many times as desired at no additional cost.

An online groundschool is available as well for convenience. The number of hours to complete the course will depend on the individual’s other commitments, number of hours flown per week, weather, number of repetitive exercises required, time to meet proficiency requirements for the flight test, etc.

Most students require more than the minimum number of dual hours to prepare for their flight test. While our experience is that very few people flight test in the minimum time prescribed by Transport Canada (45 hours), our students on average flight test in about 55-60 hours total time (40 hours dual, 15 hours solo) provided they do not require repeat lessons.

Students who do an introductory flight with the Club and subsequently enrol in groundschool within 30 days will receive a reduction in their ground school costs. (Purchasing a yearly voting membership will reduce solo flying costs by $12 per hour).
